SUGGEST A PUPPY NAME!

As a first time mom, Chibi has no idea on how to nurse her newborn pup.

This morning, Chibi gave birth to two puppies. Unfortunately, the first puppy which came out was stillborn.  The second one came out almost an hour later. Good thing my mom saw the poor pup hanging halfway out from Chibi, we had to ask my mom’s friend to pull the puppy out – Chibi seemed too tired to push her puppy out, and bringing her to the vet would take more time.  And here we thought Chibi had to undergo a caesarian procedure because the vet said that since Pom is a bit big, Chibi’s puppies might be too big as well. Luckily, Chibi had a normal delivery.

Pom-pom is the pup’s father, he is a cream colored Pomeranian while Chibi is red, we are wondering why the puppy is parti-colored. But I guess that happens…both puppy and mother are doing fine now 😀

We had to hold Chibi while she nurses her pup or else she’ll stand up.

A parti-colored pup? Now, how’d that happen? Hmmm…

We’re still thinking of a puppy name – it’s a boy! 😀 Any suggestions?

I AM MAX, THE ROTTWEILER

Human picked me out of my 8 other siblings, I don’t know…maybe because she thought I was cute while chewing on a metal bar, haha! She took me home that same day, but we had to stop at the vet first. On the way there, I threw up on human’s lap. Her pants were a mess but she didn’t get mad – lucky me!

The vet gave me vitamin shots and scheduled another visit before human carried me again and we went home. I was surprised to find out that she had other dogs – a cranky, old Dalmatian named Antonne and Sonic, a Chow-chow / Shi-tzu cross. There was no doubt about it, human and her family loved dogs 😀

A few months later, human brought home a green ball, and it has been my favorite toy 😀

I like to go on an adventure when it rains at night. Sometimes, I forget that human and her family is worried that I go missing for several hours, the longest I’ve been gone was two days, when I wandered too far away and another family found me. They knew where my human’s house was, but they were afraid to take me there, that I might attack / bite them. But one of them managed to get a chain and attached it to my collar and tied me to a tree for the meantime.  They were a nice family, they fed me but they complained I ate too much. Hey, I’m a big dog!

A few hours later, human’s father fetched me and thanked the family who took care of me the last two days. I’m glad I’m back at human’s house again.

Last rainy, Monday night I went on another adventure. But since everyone in the neighborhood knew me already, one of the neighbors went to human’s house and told them where I could be found. Again, human’s father went and fetched me.  I shouldn’t be going on adventures like that again, but I just can’t help it.

Max loves taking a bath 😀

Happy Max after taking a bath

This is the latest photo of Max, after he went on an adventure just the other night. Just chilling out – no, there will be no adventures for you this time, Max.

MY POMERANIAN SPITZ’S

Yeah, they’re a cross between a Pomeranian and a Japanese spitz, but I couldn’t care less. Pom-pom (the bigger one, male) and Chibi (female) are just two of  the four dogs I own. They both know a few commands. This time, I asked them to ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ before I gave them a treat.

“We look good together, don’t we?”

Eagerly waiting for me to give them their favorite treat 🙂

Well behaved Pomeranian spitz’s. They sit and stay for as long as I want to.

Stay…training them myself really pays off.

IF DOGS COULD TALK…

I say there would have been many things they’d tell us.

We’ve had so many dogs of different breeds since I was a kid, and I always imagined what their voice would sound like if they can talk. I’m now suddenly reminded of Disney’s movie UP, where the dogs had this device attached to their collar that can let them talk. How I wish someone can invent that in real life 😀

Then I saw this photo…it just gets me every time I read this, especially number ten.

DEVIL EQUUS & ANIMAL ABUSE

This term has been circulating the net (well, maybe in Korea only) as the expensive sedan that killed a dog. No, it did not run over the poor dog, I’ll just let the picture explain everything.

The story behind this was, according to the car owner, the beagle was given to him and because he didn’t want the interior of his expensive car ruined, he decided to put the dog in the trunk, and tied the leash somewhere inside. Because he thought the dog would have difficulty breathing if he closed the trunk, he left it open partly. The car owner said the dog probably got out when the car stopped and got dragged and died eventually.

That was his excuse – and the police never charged him of anything. He was ruled innocent actually. But this was clearly animal abuse. These kind of people should not be given any kind of animal to take care of. Clearly the car is more important to him than the dog’s life. If this happened in the US he’s facing animal abuse charges already. If this happened in my world, he’d get arrested and as punishment, the same thing would be done to him. Tie him up by the neck and let his Hyundai Equus drag him for miles.

Another picture below is taken in the Philippines, where a concerned citizen took a picture of this poor dog and reported the vehicle to the police – it didn’t take long before the police found the vehicle with the dog still in the same condition.  Sadly the police simply let the SUV owner go – how brainless of them.

No one knows where this dog is now...

The person who owned the vehicle had a cheap excuse – his SUV was already crowded inside and that the dog was supposed to be used for breeding purposes. Come on! Who are you kidding here? The SUV owner is just another ‘animal’ who cares for his precious car more than he cared for the dog. And ‘breeding purposes’?! If you’re a breeder you wouldn’t tie a piece of plastic string to a dog’s muzzle, put it in a sack and hang it behind an SUV! My guess is as good as everyone’s – the dog would be killed for its meat.

Yes, in the Philippines (I’m not saying that everyone eats dog meat) but it is known that dog meat is consumed mostly as ‘pulutan’ or food that is eaten while drinking any type of alcoholic beverage. This is considered animal cruelty under Republic Act 8495 or the Animal Welfare Act. Sadly, there are a lot of people that are unaware that this law actually exists and they continue to eat dog meat. As far as I know, there is only one person, the first person who suffered the very light penalty of this law and he is Joseph Carlo Candare – the cat serial killer. He was caught ONLY because he posted everything he did in his blog and caused an uproar with animal rights activists and even caught on with the media. His punishment? A P2,000 fine (around $47) and a two month volunteer work at PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) and that’s it.  Nothing more.

There is a lack of a definite law that will make animal abusers tremble in the Philippines, I can’t say if this is true in other countries as well, especially in China, where there are restaurants that advertise dog meat as their specialty. But to the devil Equus owner – you should be punished the same way your dog has suffered. You are one heartless idiot who shouldn’t be around animals. I hope you rot in hell for what you did.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF NOGI-NOGI (Part 2)

It’s been six months since Nogi came to us as a flea infested pup. Well, he’s grown bigger now, even his ears are up and now we call him ‘Batdog’ – his ears are just too big for his head! I am glad to say that all the fleas are gone, and he’s got a shiny coat now (even after developing mange and losing his fur because of excessive scratching) and the neighbors are even surprised he’s all healthy now. I had the vet check him up, gave him shots for the mange, I bought anti-flea shampoo and powder and even bought ‘IN-DIET’, a food supplement (brand) for dogs that eliminate breath stink and improves their fur quality. We give our four dogs this food supplement every day.

I don’t think Nogi will grow any bigger though. If our guess is right (we all think Nogi’s a native dog breed and nothing more; unlike what our neighbor said that Nogi’s a beagle breed) and I think we all are, then he’s not going to be doing a lot of growing anymore.

He is Max’s new toy now. Yeah, now that I need to buy Max another ball – he lost his favorite green ball in a very grassy area at the vacant lot near our house while he was chasing a cat (who held on for dear life on a middle of a tree while Max could only look up in frustration), Max dropped the ball somewhere and forgot all about it when I called him back. So now, Nogi is Max’s new toy. Max, the ever gentle giant, would play with Nogi with a lot of patience. It would look like Max is somewhat tearing Nogi’s head away from its body but it’s all play!

The video below was taken last January 21 of this year, Max had never hurt Nogi while they are playing.

Nogi loves attention (just like any other dog, right?) and when you approach him, his ears would go sideways, his tail would wag like there’s no tomorrow and he’ll almost lie down on the ground (just like melting) as soon as you touch him. But do NOT ever approach him when he’s eating – this is the only time when he doesn’t want attention from anyone else. All our three dogs, Max, Pom and Chibi, we can approach them while they’re eating, pet them on the head and even put out hand in their food bowl and they wouldn’t complain. Nogi is a different story; he loves his food and nothing will and can get him to stop eating once his bowl is set down and he starts eating– he will growl and growl until you leave him alone. This trait of his reminds me of Antonne, our Dalmatian who passed away last year due to old age.

Other than that, Nogi is just another sweet dog who loves attention, food, loves to run and play and be Max’s toy

“CAN WE HAZ THE ORANGE BALL, PLEASE?”

A few weeks ago, I bought two chew toys for Pom-pom and Chibi, my Pomeranian spitzes. A year ago, I bought Pom-pom a small, orange ball – it’s actually a squeaky chew toy which Chibi destroyed with her sharp puppy teeth. Pom-pom wasn’t able to destroy that ball even when he was a puppy but it took Chibi a week to actually tear the toy apart like paper.

So I decided to buy two squeaky toys, an orange one (the exact same toy for Pom-pom) and a white one for Chibi.  For some reason, Chibi prefers the orange ball over the white one. Then, when I tried to give the white ball to Pom-pom, he just smelled it and looked for his orange ball.  I thought dogs don’t really care about toys…was I so wrong about this! And one more thing I noticed – Pom-pom seems to have a favorite color which is orange.  I’m saying this because I bought him an orange squeaky donut chew toy and he liked it so much that even when it was torn apart, he still looks for it and wants to play with it.  So dogs have color preference as well? 🙂

I’M A LADY

Ms. Chibi

…is what Chibi would have said whenever we take notice on how slooooooooow she eats.

Like I’ve mentioned before, I have four dogs; Max, the almost three year old Rottweiler, Pom-pom, the almost two year old Pomeranian spitz (who knows a lot of tricks by the way) and Nogi-nogi, the youngest of the pack – I really don’t know his exact age because he was only given to us by our neighbor who had no idea how old Nogi is as well, but he is still a puppy and Chibi, of course.

Chibi is around seven months old now. She is also a Pomeranian spitz like Pom-pom but she has a darker shade of brown – red Pomeranian fur to be exact. She is smaller than Pom-pom and the vet said she wouldn’t be growing much anymore, because female dogs tend to be smaller than male dogs. The name Chibi is a japanese word which means ‘small’ – so the name fits her perfectly. Like all Pomeranian, Chibi went through the puppy uglies stage; you really wouldn’t think she’s a Pomeranian with the way she looked like before. Anyway, like I said with my opening sentence, Chibi eats very slow. My other three dogs have finished their meals, taken their walks, played with each other but Chibi is still eating, barely finishing half of her food in the bowl.

Yeah, “I’m a lady” is just a human’s / my excuse for Chibi’s food picking. She’s a picky eater. She eats the meats first, then the dog food and lastly the rice, and that takes her three hours – more or less. She doesn’t like foods that are hard. They say Chibi’s just like me; no, I’m NOT picky with my food, I just eat slow. I’m usually the last one to finish. What can I say, I’m just enjoying the food! As for Chibi, I’d like to think that she’s using the ‘I’m a lady’ excuse since she’s the only female dog I have (the third one since I was in high school) and the rest are all males (for some reason, we prefer male dogs over female dogs).

She eats slowly, she eats with finesse, she eats like a lady – she’s Chibi!

Happy Chibi

All smiles and happy because she got a big piece of treat 😀

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF NOGI-NOGI

This is just a video of Nogi eating his dinner. We we’re just amazed at how he gulps – yes, I said gulp because he doesn’t even chew his food! He is half Chibi’s size, but he can eat twice as much the food Chibi eats (if we let him).  He’s has too much energy and chases everyone, especially me; and as a proof of that, I have scratches on my legs 😦   I’m too scared to clip off his nails, even if I ask the vet to do that it would seem impossible because Nogi doesn’t want to stay in one place!

An update: Nogi is now free of fleas! The wounds on his back are all dried up – fur is gone in the area where he had the wounds, but it will grow back in a few months! By the way, the barking in the background is Max, my 2 year old Rottweiler – he wants his dinner too! haha!

A BLACK BEAGLE NAMED WHITEY (although I call him NOGI-NOGI)

A black lab or a beagle? You decide...

Chibi has a housemate now, a black beagle pup.” That was the text message my mom sent me almost three weeks ago. I thought, a black beagle pup? I had no idea there were black beagles…but there was. Excitedly, I googled some pics of black beagles and sure enough, there were really black beagles. So I had an idea on how the pup would look like and I was excited to go home.

I was a bit disappointed when I finally saw the puppy. He didn’t look like a beagle at all! He looked like a Labrador – seriously. Well, the neighbor said the pup IS a beagle. I was thinking more like a beagle mix (of some breed I’ll probably never find out) but I’m still thankful we have a new puppy. That makes FOUR dogs in total – Max the Rottweiler, Pom-pom and Chibi, the Pomeranian spitz and Whitey, the beagle/lab puppy. Uhm, thankful…hold that thought. As I held Whitey, I saw that he was INFESTED with fleas; to describe, I can safely say he was a factory of those damn parasites! He was black but I can see the fleas crawling and I knew he had to be checked by a vet, ASAP.

The neighbor who gave us the pup said Whitey came from his relative who loves dogs – uh-huh…right…LOVES dogs? This is where I realized the fine line between being a DOG LOVER and KNOWING how to properly take care of your dogs. If Whitey came from a family that loves dogs, then he shouldn’t be in that poor, flea infested condition in the first place. And, as a pup, if he had those MANY fleas, then what about the mother dog? I could only imagine the worse. But, I’m glad to say, Whitey had just got his first shot of a deworming vaccine, and his fleas has GREATLY decreased in number. I don’t see any more fleas, but I still have to apply the anti flea powder every now and then and keep him away from my other dogs, until I make sure he’s parasite free.

His name is Whitey, but I like to call him Nogi-nogi.

Whitey’s next vet appointment is next week, for another deworming shot. Other than that, Whitey is full of energy and eats a LOT! Oh, and when he wants to go out, he will literally cry/sound like a baby; that for more than a couple of times we actually thought there was a baby crying in the garage!

Do I still need to answer why he is named Whitey? Hehe! But I prefer to call him Nogi-nogi!

Can you guess what breed he is? 😀
